The books with a review from Amazon are the ones I have not yet had the chance to obtain a review copy. They have however been recommended to me by professionals in the field as well as consumers.
The
Mastery of Love : A Practical Guide to the Art of Relationship (Ruiz,
Miguel, Toltec Wisdom Book.) by Don Miguel Ruiz "Ruiz
and the wisdom of the Toltecs are wonderful! I have given copies
of the book to my daughter, my friends and am buying copies for
my brothers and their wives. My love and I read the book to each
other one Sunday afternoon and this perspective has helped us both
heal from past relationships and understand the dynamics that cause
us to hurt each other with emotional poison. The book also shows
how to stop hurting ourselves and the ones we love. This book have
helped me grow beyond my past and into a loving future."
Love
Is Never Enough : How Couples Can Overcome Misunderstandings, Resolve
Conflicts, and Solve Relationship Problems Through Cognitive Therapy
by Aaron T., M.D. Beck "Cognitive therapy is based on the premise
that emotions come out of unexamined, habituated thought reactions.
These thoughts and the emotions they foster can be deconstructed
and, hence, defused of their power to poison all human interactions,
not just those between wife and husband. A brilliant book--unpretentious,
well-written, truly helpful. The astute reader will see all sorts
of parallels to contemporary linguistic theory. Do yourself a favor:
throw all your New Age psychobabble books in the garbage and read
Dr. Beck."
10
Steps to a Great Relationship : What Every Couple Should Know About
Love by Howard J. Rankin "I found Dr Rankin's book
really helpful and enjoyable. It has always seemed to me that people
use the word "love" in many different confusing ways and the book
helped me understand what love really is. I liked the author's easy
style, case histories and humor and I especially appreciated his
non-judgmental tone and useful techniques that helped me assess
my strengths and weaknesses as well as giving me practical suggestions
about how I could improve in love."
How
Not to Screw It Up : 10 Steps to an Extraordinary Relationship
by Nita Tucker "This book is a simple, direct guide with specific
instructions to improve your marriage or relationship. Tucker writes
in an honest, direct style and gives many personal examples of how
her advice works and creates results. The method she describes is
innovative and contradicts many accepted ideas about relationships.
Using her directions, it is possible for one person in a relationship
to improve the relationship by using her simple strategies and by
changing their own perspective and mindset. Tucker includes ideas
such as taking personal responsibility for the success of a relationship
and making things happen the way you want them to. She includes
valuable advice in the areas of finance, communication, sex, family
planning and behavior. Her book is easy and quick to read and her
advice is direct and useful."
Love
Book for Couples : Building a Healthy Relationship
by E. Michael Lillibridge "I purchased this book when it was first
published by the author and have loaned it out so many times that
I had to purchase more copies. It really opened my eyes to the fact
that it is possible to have a discussion about something without
breaking out into an argument. The guidelines are easy to understand
and make sense. They taught me to listen to what my partner has
to say WITHOUT constantly thinking of what I'm going to say next.
Then you learn to have fun brainstorming a solution, after which
you set a date to review the results. This book has allowed me to
have a relationship that has lasted more than 3 months - my partner
and I been together for 12 years thanks to this advice."
Mars
and Venus Together Forever : Relationship Skills for Lasting Love
by John Gray "Mars/Venus was wonderful enough. I never thought that
any other book could be just as great, but this one is! It deals
with the specific problems of couples, and it's a wonderful addition
if you've already read Mars/Venus."
Our
Love Is Too Good to Feel So Bad : The 10 Prescriptions to Heal Your Relationship
by Mira Kirshenbaum "This book, the paperback version of "Our Love...",
did for me what no advice from friends or family could do. It gave me real
tools to work out my problems with my husband. We can talk to each other
in a clear way, and love each other in a healthy way. With all my heart
I want to thank Ms. Kirshenbaum for writing this book!"
