Q. Can marijuana relieve the symptoms of BPD? My wife smokes a little and it seems to control the anger associated with the disorder. She is currently on 400mg Serzone per day and has experienced some relief of symptoms, I have noticed that your doses are higher; is 400mg not enough?

A. Smoking marijuana would be bad for a couple reasons. Illegality aside, it lowers the effective dose of medication your wife is taking by a good deal. Yes, 400 mg is an inadequate dosage for virtually all borderlines. Also, taking 500 mg/day, costs the same. If 400 helps some, she has nothing to lose by trying more. Discuss it with your doctor and see what he or she says.
