Do you have any info on this in laymen's terms..fought to get off prozac..and with my "drug-abuse" stigma, I am refused Klonopin and Xanax, I am taking 600 mg. daily, they want me on 900 but my heart starts palpitating. I am physically very healthy. Started this one about a week ago..seems to calm me a little...two stays on pysch ward in two weeks..am confused..
A. Neurontin is a good drug, and fairly benign. Most folks find it as effective as in anxiety disorders as benzodiazepines (Klonopin and Xanax) but it is not addictive. Usual dosage in patients is around 2400 to 3200 mg/day in divided dosages (i.e., 600 mg three times per day = 2400 mg). Your heart palpitations may be a return of the anxiety when the Neurontin wears off, indicating a need for more, not less.
