Q. I am on new meds...75mgs. Effexor (started 6 days ago on 37.5mgs) and 900mgs of Gabapentin. I have severe edema to both legs and feet (more so on right leg & foot) and on my left arm & hand. I realize this may be a side effect of Effexor or combination of both drugs as I had no edema with just the Gabapentin which I've been taking for about three weeks. My doc(?) didn't seem concerned, par, but I haven't experienced this type of side effect before. They are numb. and the indentation left is deep..

I am physically healthy and this bothers me greatly.. I am still so very depressed, the dark cloud should have lifted days ago, I can't remember ever being this down. this long...Wah!!

A. I have not had anyone get edema on Effexor, but I guess anything is possible. Try using Zoloft (likely will need 300-400 mg in the morning as a final dose) to see if the edema goes away. If it does not, I would start looking for another cause of the edema.
