Q. I have a 16 year old son who has been diagnosed with a personality disorder. He has Narcissistic personality traits, rebellious, poor in school when he goes, disrespectful to authority and also is adopted. We would like information on medications and possible alternative educational program along with counseling programs that might be good for him in a structured environment.

A. Best thing to do is find a psychiatric doctor you are comfortable working with, and follow their suggestions. Best chance of finding a cutting edge one is at a University teaching hospital. Most major cities have one or more teaching hospitals. Wherever there is a medical school, there is a teaching hospital.

You will need someone to work with long-term, so stay as close to home as possible.
