Q. I'm 31, have been depressed off and on since adolescence. I have diabetes and very bad bulimia, also. I have already tried to kill myself several times, though not recently. My eating problems, depression, and high blood sugars get in the way of doing much of anything. I have a therapist, take Zoloft, but feel like I have already died inside. I don't know what to do?

Thank you. My psychiatrist wants me to increase the Zoloft to 200, but I have been wanting to go off it. I have been on antidepressants since I was 16. I'd like to know how I am on none at all. I take just insulin- no oral medications. I also take Trazodone (100mg) for sleep, and a prn for Klonopin (.5mg). And captopril for kidneys (6.25). The eating disorder (bingeing and high blood sugars) is the no. 1 issue to address. I am like a drug addict when I am "high" on sugar.

A. Follow your psychiatrist's advice. No only is she the one trying to help you, but she is right on track with her treatment. You will need to take Zoloft fro ever if it works. You will need to take enough Zoloft until your carbohydrate craving goes away. In most folks like you that is anywhere from 200 to 400 mg/day. Go over your treatment with your doctor and at least give her treatment suggestions a try. They sound very good. Besides, if you feel terrible, you have nothing to lose. Stopping your medications will not help, and could hurt you.
