Q. I suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder which in my opinion is greatly
aggravated by my hypothyroidism. Plus I'm forty and my other hormones are
starting to flare as well. I take 150/T-4 replacement. However I took myself
off paxil/prozac because they were costly and aggravating to my TSH blood
levels. I wish to pursue medical marijuana as I live in Washington state
where this alternative is legal. When I go off on an emotional frenzy I need
something now, again oral drugs failed me here. Please give me some feedback
on your experience with herbal alternatives to synthetics.
A. Paxil and Prozac have no interaction with either thyroid or TSH. Never. You
stopped them for your own reasons, but not because they effected your
thyroid, so do not spread falsehoods like this. You can lie to yourself if
you want, but not to others.
As far as your alternative to synthetics, getting stoned does not work. It
gets you high, but is in no way palliative for BPD other than to dope one up.
Period. I have seen no data that marijuana does much at all except decrease
cognition and increase weight. It is a bad thing. If you can afford to smoke
pot, you can probably afford appropriate medicinal treatment that has been
shown to work.
