Q. First of all thanks for sharing this valuable information with us. I'd like to know if you can help me with the following questions:
* Is there a genetic predisposition in a person to develop BPD ?
* If yes, what are they ?
* Are there any studies tracking percentages of why people develop BPD ?
* Do you know of any case, where the BPD has been cured ?

A. 1. There does seem to be a genetic predisposition to BPD. The studies, however, are not foolproof. It could be that people in a family have BPD because of the environment, not the genes. The Danish and Minnesota adopted apart twin studies do suggest that some of what we call personality is transmitted.

2. There are a number of studies looking at the correlation of environmental factors on developing BPD. Sexual abuse in childhood, as an example, has a very high incidence of BPD developing later in life. Again, however, this is not proof. It may be that children of BPD parents are more susceptible to abuse because of the environment/friends their parents are stratified into.

3. I know of no cases where BPD has been cured. I do know of a number of cases where it has been largely eliminated if the individual stays on their medications and has a good therapist for rehabilitation.
