Q. My sister scored a 77 on the anger test, but she internalizes all that anger. My family has never realized she felt this way.
She is also suffering from depression and being treated with Wellbutrin, 300mil daily.
Just recently she told me she hurts her self. Scratching, slapping, hitting walls, pulling hair, head banging and punching.
Often her reactions are inappropriate, or way overboard for the situation. A couple of examples: if someone tells a joke, she will fall over from laughing too hard, or while watching a sad movie, she will work herself into a huge crying jag.
I feel there is a lot more going on then just depression. What might the problem be, and how can I help her?
A. Good questions and astute observations. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do other than to let her psychiatrist know about these other symptoms. If the medications she is on are working, the symptoms you listed should go away for the most part. If her psychiatrist does not want to talk to you, send him or her a copy of the email you sent to this website. It is a quick read, and might help in your sister's treatment.
