Q. In the book that Prof. Van Meekeren wrote on BPD he writes that most Borderlines will find life easier from the age of about forty on.In a documentary on CAH I learnt that a high testosterone level in the embryonal phase can lead to male-type behavior with females. This is the case with me and I have seen the same behavior ( like interests) with other borderline females I know. Do you think BPD might originate from hormonal disturbances?

A. Possibly. I do not think BPD is one disease. Like diabetes, it is a behavior that probably has multiple forms and causes. That is why no one treatment works for diabetes or BPD. No data has yet shown any hormones helping with the illness.
