Q. I have a 17 1/2 year old daughter who has been hospitalized 10 times in the pat 3 years. When she was 14 she was diagnosed with Borderline tendencies, depression, ODD, and ADHD. She has stormy relationships with boyfriends and friends. She constantly fights with them and then manipulates them back. She has fears of abandonment. She rages over little things(put her hand through a window when I asked her to get off the phone). She can be sweet one minute and quickly turn mean. I think she may have BPD, but I am afraid to tell this to her Psychiatrist for fear I am self diagnosing, but she only sees her every 3 months, I live with her. She is physically, mentally and emotionally draining. What should I do?

  A. Your daughter's psychiatrist is likely well aware of your daughter's diagnosis. If not, you should bring it up, or at least bring up your concerns. There is nothing wrong with talking up about someone you want to help. Particularly if they are not getting better.
