Q. I have been on Zoloft 150mg during day and Stelazine 4mg at bedtime. I have been having past nightmares almost every night that scares me when I awake. I will sometimes awake at 4am and need to smoke a cigarette to relax my nerves. I feel very tired mentally the next day. I am not working right now and I am seeing a therapist once a week. Our last conversation was to write a letter to my ex-boyfriend of 2 years ago and give it to her to read. What do I do from here. I have these horrible nightmares and I haven't any need to write the letter to him now.
A. I do not know what to tell you about the nightmares. I would imagine they are caused by either an incomplete response to the Zoloft or the Stelazine mucking up your sleep architecture. Discuss it with the physician giving you the medications, and see what options are available. If you still have carbohydrate craving, I would increase the Zoloft. If that is gone or was never a problem, I would see about switching the Stelazine to an alternative medication.
