Q. I am a 19 year old male w/ borderline features. Not so long ago my doctor put me on Zoloft for OCD. I was doing good, since Zoloft improved my OCD, but it just made my disorganized psychotic thinking worst as well the false perceptions, so he took me out of it. I am about to go on 3 mg a day of Risperdal and I was wondering if Risperdal would improve my borderline features? Also, will Risperdal help my OCD, especially those types with unwanted thoughts and images? Or since it is a serotonin blocker, will Risperdal make my OCD worst?

  A. Your bad thoughts may or may not be a form of OCD--I do not have enough data to make a diagnosis either way, Risperdal can help with the unwanted thoughts, and there is data in the literature (case reports) that it helps with borderline personality. Give it a try as your doctor suggests, and see what happens. It sounds like a good plan your doctor is considering.
