Q. I currently suffer from chronic Hepatitis. I am rather ill and also, as can be expected quite depressed and have very low energy. The hepatitis itself tends to cause the depression also; the depression is not just because I am upset over the illness.

Anyway, my question is, what is a relatively safe and least hepatoxic antidepressant I can take? I absolutely need one at this time and my doctor is at a loss for what to use. I am very sensitive to the side effects due to my illness.

In the past I have used Prozac and Effexor XR with some success. I also take Ativan in minute amounts for anxiety and moodiness 2 times a week. I have horrible mood swings because of this illness--I am not bipolar. The mood swings dissipate as my liver function returns to the normal range. I take Adderall also for my lethargy about 2 times a week in the 10-15mg range. I have a relatively good diet and take no other meds and drink no alcohol or street drugs.
