Q. Why is it that I seem to avoid or push away people when I want to be friendly and have a lot of friends? Is this part of bpd? Thanks.

A. This behavior is just part of the illness. Look at it like a headache or diabetes. No one wants to have either of those illnesses, but they do because of chemistry. BPD makes people difficult to get along with, yet at the same time folks with it have rejection sensitivity. Its a nasty combination that most folks with BPD have. They irritate easily and alienated folks, yet at the same time feel abandoned and/or guilty. Medications help a lot with this behavior by providing control over emotions. Therapy works too, but is best used after medication therapy has started to work. Both together are better than either treatment alone.
