  Q. I was just diagnosed with BPD and PTSD. I'm not sure I believe it yet though... Just wondering if you could explain what "affect regulation" is?

  A. Affect is essentially mood. Your affect is how your mood is displayed. So, affective instability or dysregualtion means you have mood swings. These can be depression, anxiety, anger, rage and a host of other emotional displays.
