Q. I think I have BPD, because I have had all of the feelings and behavioral patterns as described in the DSM IV since about age 15. I am now 25, and things have gotten much worse in the past couple of years. I have really hurt people I love, who can't forgive me. How can I get help? I live in Olympia, WA.
A. Based on your description it sounds as if you are ready to begin to explore your situation with a qualified professional. Start by calling your local mental health authority (i.e., community mental health center, local hospital, etc..) and ask about a referral to a qualified professional with background in treating bpd and other related issues. Seattle, WA is also home to Dr. Marsha Linehan, a founder of some of the more effective treatment approaches for bpd. A phone call to her at the University of Washington may give you some early direction as to where to turn for treatment in your area.
