  Q. I was told Ultra Mega from GNC can help bipolar disorder in some people. I can not seem to locate any information on this. My therapist said she has a patient who takes 9/day and no meds. I am on Zyprexa, Zoloft, and Klonopin. I have been on Depakote, Seroquel, Prozac, Ativan, Effexor, Pamelor, and nothing seems to work. what are your thoughts and experiences?

  A. This therapist should not be allowed to see patients if they are so ignorant to actually believe vitamins will work. Bipolar illness is a severe disease with a high lethality (estimates as high as 20%). It is a biological illness and requires specific medications. Taking vitamins alone to treat bipolar illness is like taking vitamins alone for treating insulin-dependent diabetes: It is wrong and may kill you.
