Q. I am a person who suffers from bipolar disorder, I am on Depakote and Zyprexa. I feel very well with them, but I have an urge for doing something, working and be productive. When I go for an interview and they ask me why did I quit my last job, what should I say? should I say I am bipolar and that was the reason or should I lie and invent another reason. Can they deny me of a job opportunity for suffering bipolar? Also I would like to assist to a group therapy for bipolar disorder, I have been looking for one in NY but I could not find it yet. Do you know of any?

A. First I want to let you know that bipolar disorder is certainly not a specialty of mine, nor is employment law in your state. I'm not sure how you want to handle the question to a future employer. If it is not a requirement or law to disclose reasons for your last job change, then it may be beneficial to keep the information about your illness confidential. Unfortunately, the public stigma against mental illnesses is still alive and well.
