Q. I have read two books on BPD and I am totally convinced that my sister has this. We are 14 mos. apart (I am younger). She has had suicidal gestures since adolescence....(we are 45 & 46) and I am still frightened for her. She makes my life a living hell at times and other times is the most intelligent, fun person in the world. My husband resents her very much. She is extremely wary of doctors or drugs of any sort. She is a victim, but also very manipulative and "twists" everything until I'm sure I'm going to loose my mind. I have never told her I think she has anything wrong with her (even though she admitted to me that she's probably an alcoholic).....but the normal ups and downs of life. Her two girls are grown but tortured at times like me. Her husband is quiet and kind and ignores everything as much as he can. The outbursts are unbearable and scary....the depression and darkness....well, you know all about it......I have lived with it for so long that I really don't know what normal is.
A. From your description, it sounds as if you have been on the emotional roller coaster for many years. I applaud and commend you for seeking information and understanding rather than just feeling resentment. You didn't really indicate a specific problem for me to comment other than the obvious challenges/stress related to maintaining a relationship with someone with BPD. Take care of yourself and remember to use some of the communication strategies and coping strategies I have outlined in Stop Walking on Eggshells. Best wishes.
