 What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy?

DBT - Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. A form of cognitive-behavioral therapy developed by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. at the University of Washington. She and her colleagues have done an outstanding job of creating an effective approach to deal with the riskier and more potentially lethal symptoms of bpd (suicidal feelings, self-cutting, self-mutilation). Most of this therapy (psycho-social skills training) is conducted in groups of 6-8 borderline clients. There is usually a workbook and exercises that accompany each session. So far, DBT has shown to be the most effective approach in helping others manage these particular symptoms. We (at the hospital) have been running a DBT group for about 3 years now.
